Shall We Tell President?
I do not know what will happen if Obama loses his bid for reelection in November this year. However, I do know that a great many people are worried about the ramifications of this. Of course, this is not made easier by the fecklessness that surrounds Mitt Romney. To be honest, I wish Obama had a more sizable opponent – someone who could stick it to the President … Someone like a Republican Obama. Romney is … I dunno … The guy is more vanilla than anything else! If you paid close attention to Romney, you’d see the pained expression on his face and beady pins of red in his eyes when he speaks. It is obvious that although this scion has perfected the poker or politician’s face, he has that George H.W. Bush stiff factor where there is a discomfiture with actually racing for political office. On the other hand, he walks with a neat, calculated gait. He is a decent and polished man. His handshake is warm and his hands are clean. He smells good and still leaves you cold like a lousy, perfunctory lover. But these are not terms of disdain over ‘Mittens.’ I am actually proud that the former Massachusetts governor and I lived in the same town – albeit he on the richer side. And secondly, unlike Obama, I have met one of Romney’s foreign policy advisors. For those in the know, Romney has an excellent plan for Africa.
This is why I feel sorry for him today. Mitt should have won the Republican nomination 4 years ago. He’d have probably kicked Obama’s ass to the kerb in a heartbeat simply because he’d not have made the silly decisions John McCain made. Mitt looked and STILL looks presidential. Mitt did not scare anyone and especially, Mitt had run a liberal state like Massachusetts and done an excellent job. He’d have given people the healthcare everyone needed and deserved and no one would have cared about the issues everyone is concerned about now. Unfortunately, the Republican party of 2012 is much different than that one of 2008. Now, the Christian conservatives are in charge and there is a wing called the Tea Party.
But there is something else in 2012: There’s a whole different dynamic. There is anger out there, I tell you. Many of those in the U.S. have had to endure more than 3 years of an economic downturn. Many know someone who has lost their livelihood and a great many more watch Fox News or listen to conservative radio pundits. The Southern Law Poverty Center reports that the number of hate crimes and racists have been aroused from their pseudo slumber and they are baying for blood. The country is calm right now – but still waters run deep. And that is why I am wondering about Obama’s fate in November 2008. Many of those I speak to expect the President to serve only one term and I am no longer surprised to hear things like ‘A Romney Administration.’ This is what worries me, to be honest. No … I do not think that Romney will take the country down a path of disaster. I do not think he will turn back the President’s healthcare plan since it actually has popular elements to it. Neither will Romney repeal aspects of financial regulation or consumer protection. No. Mitt Romney, if he ever got to be President of these United States will continue to steer the country the way the framers of the Constitution planned: slowly and steadily.
That is why anyone in the know should be worried about this ‘thing’ people have against Obama. Everyone and anyone knows that America’s first black president was handed an unfortunate hand of cards with the economy, the two wars and the first few months of an unpopular presidency. Also, the American people needed a change and they needed respite from all that was distressing them. Bush II had completely disillusioned the masses and had, successfully, managed to screw over the full faith and credit of the U.S. in things like Iraq, Afghanistan and even in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. And so when the thin, dark man with a weird name came out to play, everyone wanted to touch him. Sigh … Obama’s election was, probably, a little too much of a high from which we now need to climb back down to earth from.
Unfortunately, we do not have the time to look at the facts. We do not care that prognosticators can be wrong and the 8% unemployment rate they hoped for in 2009 was completely wrong and off base. It does not matter that the stimulus package worked and many people were able to keep their jobs or earn new wages simply because the government brought out their Keynesians and spent money to keep the country afloat. No. As far as some people are concerned, bailouts and stimulus packages are akin to the devil. And what about the fact that the auto bailout kept Detroit alive and somehow, Osama bin Laden is dead? Well … Whereas there is a collective pause to acknowledge that the man who tore down the Twin Towers is dead, we will not give credit to the blacky in the whitey’s house! As far as we are concerned, he is probably a Manchurian candidate. No one can do so much good if they come from a place of darkness. Again, I sigh. This is why, despite the President’s personal popularity, he might lose the election. This is why although he only needs to win Ohio and Virginia to get the 270 electoral votes, he might still lose the election. Simply, Obama may not get reelected because he is a black man with so many white men after him.
If you want to see what I am talking about, watch many of these Fox News shows or listen to Rush Limbaugh one of these days. If you are an American politics neophyte, please do not be astonished at the disdain conservatives have for Obama. Closely attached to this, have you read of the sheer amounts of money being put up by groups such as Crossroads GPS to fund anti Obama campaigns? For the record, I consider these sums ‘bounties’ in the Wild West sense. They have to do something or the black man will have the dignity of serving the two terms he so deserves. And if you are one of those elites that read and research, you might actually be tongue tied for the lies told about this man. Some say he is an amateur and others say he is a socialist. The majority think that he has no idea about governance and many conservatives think that he is a liar and a bully and one who interferes in the personal freedoms of the ordinary citizens. Many conservatives argue that Obama is the worst president in the history of their country and they are right, in their own estimation. In their eyes, he was an experiment they were not ready for. He, as a black man, was not supposed to be sitting in the White House. It was like ‘Hope and Change’ of 2008 was a nightmare.
Now, they cannot bear to live with this illegitimate son of one of their own. And so they will try to dehumanize him. He is the ‘other’ and one who is not American enough. He was born in Kenya, they crow and he is spending their children’s money to the ground. He can do this, especially, because he is not in love with the country. He cannot love the country as much as Romney does. He is an outsider. He is a Democrat. He is Barack Hussein Obama.
