The Feminization of the Republican Party

Saturday, February 25, 2012

By Dennis Matanda

For the record, I do not think that feminization equals a reduction in status. However, bear with me while I pontificate on how the mighty have fallen! Republicans are, in this caricature, being portrayed as females in need of suitable partners. And there’s more … The point here is that the Republicans are usually portrayed as the masculine party of America. Because the Democrats usually deal with things like healthcare, welfare and education, they are considered the ‘nanny’ party. Republicans deal in tough things like national security and the rugged aspects of adventure, drilling … and even, a little HIV/AIDS prevention. They have also been known to dabble in Christianity and anti homosexual campaigns.

But this … This presentation as women is something that is ‘alarmingly’ becoming more commonplace. There’s petulance on the part of the Republican party. They are getting pickier and pickier. They want their presumptive nominee a certain way. They are being choosy. In their disdain for Barack Obama, the Republicans have been taken down from their perch. They are no longer the party that falls in line. There are now different factions and thus, they are now, in their obduracy, the ‘weaker’ party.

Of course, all this is just conjecture on my part following a silly cartoon in a liberal online rag. The Weekly Standard would never present themselves as women. Or maybe they would. There’s an interesting portrayal of the most virulent lot in the Republican Party: The Tea Party. Look at this picture and article and tell me if the man’s pose is not a little effeminate. Mitt Romney might as well be appealing to a flamboyant homosexual! Am I seeing too much or perhaps, in their bid to be more masculine, the Republicans have even gone as far as feminizing themselves?

For this, I’d like to apologize in advance, or actually, in hindsight …
