The Obama Presidential Center, dedicated to former U.S. President Barack Obama, will open to the public on June 19 in Chicago’s South Side.

Spanning 19.3 acres, the US$850 million campus – funded through private donations – includes a museum, library, park, and community spaces. While general access to the grounds will be free, museum admission will cost US$30, placing it among the most expensive in the United States.

The museum will feature campaign artifacts and presidential memorabilia, alongside public amenities such as a basketball court, playground, and library.

At the heart of the site stands a 225-foot granite structure housing the museum. Its design has drawn mixed reactions, with critics questioning its aesthetics, while supporters emphasize its symbolic significance honoring the first Black U.S. president.

The Obama Foundation says the center is intended to “inspire, empower, and connect people,” while fostering community engagement and civic participation.
