The Give Love Campaign: A Group Of Young People Respond To The Recent Calamities That Struck The Philippines

Saturday, November 16, 2013

On October 15, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck Central Philippines, leaving, as of the latest count 222 people dead over 1000 people injured. Three weeks later on November 7th the Category 5 super typhoon named Haiyan slammed into the country’s central region of island provinces, setting off landslides, leaving 1 million homeless and taking the lives of more than 2500 people with estimates of going higher.

In response to these calamities, Pinoy Pride, an Initiative operating under Inspired Initiatives, has decided to take action. On November 9th, Pinoy Pride launched their Give Love Campaign to provide aid for those affected by the earthquake and super typhoon that struck the Philippines. We have partnered with Philippines Red Cross, Fil-Can Magazine and Our Lady of Assumption Church in Toronto.

The items to be collected include non-perishable foods, as well as wearable and usable clothing, such as shirts, pants, socks for all ages and sizes to be given in garbage bags or boxes. All the food and clothing collected will be given in support of the millions effected by the two natural disasters that hit the Philippines less than 30 days apart.

The initiative plans to close the campaign with a benefit party to be held in January. Funds raised from the campaign will be donated to The Philippines Red Cross. Items collected will be donated to Our Lady of Assumption in support of their disaster relief efforts.

So far we’ve been receiving incredible support from our compassionate city of Toronto. McDonalds Canada has donated almost 1000 bottles of water to our relief efforts. The Learning Enrichment Foundation and The Rostie Group have offered up their facility as a drop-off locations.

Detailing Knights, a mobile car detailing company is providing logistical support where they have sponsored drivers and cars to handle all of our pick-ups.We have the University of Windsor collecting items on our behalf and other local high schools within Toronto. Our efforts have received support from Fil-Can Magazine, The Habari Network and many others.

We are truly trying to bring a message of hope to the Philippines. Many of those in Pinoy Pride have family members effected by the recent calamities.
