Howard University Ranks Among World’s Top Universities in Global Impact
Howard University has secured a place among U.S. News & World Report’s 2025–2026 Best Global Universities, a ranking that evaluates 2,250 institutions across over 100 countries. As the top-ranked historically Black college or university (HBCU) globally, Howard is recognized for its growing influence in international research and education.
The rankings assess universities based on academic research output, global reputation, and international collaboration. Howard’s inclusion highlights its robust contributions to scholarship and innovation, particularly in addressing disparities affecting marginalized communities worldwide.
As the only HBCU with an R1 Carnegie Classification – the highest designation for research activity – Howard leads in disciplines such as health sciences, engineering, and social sciences. Strategic investments in infrastructure and research initiatives continue to position its faculty and students at the forefront of transformative discovery.
University president Ben Vinson III noted, “Being ranked among the world’s leading universities confirms that Howard’s legacy of excellence is driving real-world impact. Our return to R1 status and this global recognition show that ‘Howard at Maximum Strength’ is not just a vision – it’s our present reality.”
