Calling the election for Clinton
By Dennis Matanda | Editor – The Habari Network
Obama has been one of the most effective American presidents
One day before the 2016 General Election, instead of feeling catharsis, redemption, or even relief, I am left with what Ugandans call a ‘mango.’ There’s a pain in my throat. It’s like bile is piling up in my system and I am sick to the teeth. I cannot believe that the world’s most powerful country – a democracy, so to speak – could have been swept up in this ‘Trump Nonsense’. Because that’s what it really is: Nonsense.
As a pragmatist, I completely understand Yin and Yang. Do not expect to create something and not have some sort of reaction. You create Obama, you get the anti-Obama.
And Trump was the perfect anti-Obama. He is white. He is boisterous. He is old. He is rich. He is obtuse. All the things that Obama is not.
Without necessarily resorting to conspiracy theory – but somewhat bolstered by the fact that the Southern Law Poverty Center registered a large amount of racist rhetoric these past 8 years – there’s no doubt in my mind that Trump is a bigot. And if you look up the word ‘bigot’ in a thesaurus, you will find that this word perfectly describes Trump.
He is naive – so naive in talking about globalization and world trade.
If the United States Senate does not ratify the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), the country is absolutely screwed. Not only will this allow China to scuttle much of the world’s economic partnerships; it allows people like Russia’s Putin to put his foot in places he should not – especially because he does not have the capacity to do anything constructive.
Trump is chauvinistic in not really understanding that women are not necessarily tools to bedeck oneself with – they are humans that feel and bleed. Most of all, Trump is a bigot because he is selfish. He cannot see beyond his nose, and being desperate for whatever it is he craves now is more of an emotional, visceral and innate act of self-preservation.
But from what? Barack Obama was never going to destroy America. Why, Barack Obama has been and will go down in history as one of the most effective American presidents. Even if he stood astride an America that threatened its own national security, he did not invoke cards I would have praised him for. He should have insisted that Donald Trump apologizes for being a birther. And just this thing alone – denying the legitimacy of an American president – should have been disqualifying enough for Clinton to take him to the cleaners.
What did Clinton actually do?
And perhaps she has: Trump has not led Clinton in the polls of polls. Over 90 percent of the polls taken since June 2016 have had Donald Trump behind the person who will serve as 45th President of the United States.
Hillary Clinton was always going to be America’s next president, and it did not matter that the Republicans were going to do everything they could to make a tarbaby out of her.
Let’s just think for a moment: What did Clinton actually do? Was it a crime to have a server in her house? A house that was protected by the Secret Service? Wasn’t her server secure enough to handle secure mail? After all, her husband – Bill Clinton – was a former U.S. president. Or do people forget that she is not just Hillary Clinton, but a former first lady?
So, she deleted emails. So, she used a server. So what? Did her private server kill people in Benghazi? Did her server or use of a private email address lead to a breakdown in national security?
Did she conspire with the Democratic National Committee to rig the Democratic Primary Process? Did we find out that Hillary Clinton does not like Catholics? Oh, wait … That is information we obtained from John Podesta’s hacked emails. And not from the Clinton Server. The one they said was hanging out in a basement.
In simple terms, all this is bunk. We must call Hillary Clinton all sorts of names. Indeed, she does deserve it. However, there’s no doubt that she will be an excellent and efficient president. Unfortunately, even if she wins this election with more than 300 Electoral College votes, she will still not get into the White House with that infamous mandate an American president is entitled to when they start a new term of office.
Clinton will not have the usually good feelings of renewal that ought to come with being the first woman to serve in this role. Of course, the world will celebrate her position, and quickly, the reality of what history just did will set in. A woman will be the most powerful being on earth – a position properly deserved. More importantly, there will be some sort of balance – a catharsis; relief, so to speak. A white person will be back in the White House, and hopefully, the Republican Party and some of their supporters will finally settle down and let the Federal Government do what it must do keep the institutions of these United States humming.
