Afeni Shakur Davis, activist and mother of legendary Tupac Shakur, dies at 69
Afeni Shakur Davis, the mother of legendary rapper Tupac Shakur, has died at age 69.
Officers responded to a report of possible cardiac arrest at 9:34 p.m. in her home Monday night, the police reported in a series of tweets, and she was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead at 10:28 p.m. A cause of death has not been revealed but the Sheriff’s Coroners Office will lead an investigation.
Davis was made famous to rap fans worldwide in 1995 when her son, the late Tupac Shakur, released the single “Dear Mama” from his album “Me Against the World.” The song is considered a masterpiece of the genre and credits Davis’ love and courage in raising a difficult son in a difficult environment.
She was a political activist and also a Black Panther as a young adult and an activist and philanthropist in her later years.
No cause of death has been determined.
