Shakea Miller is on a mission to revolutionize education in Alabama while making history along the way.

On June 24, 2024, Miller officially opened 1 on 1 Technical & Theological College in Phenix City, Alabama, becoming the first Black woman to establish a degree-granting technical college in the state. She is also the sixth Black individual in the United States to accomplish this feat.

Reflecting on this milestone, Miller stated, “It is a deep honor to open the doors of this institution, which stands as a beacon of hope and a testament to the resilience and determination of countless individuals who have fought for equal rights in education. This College is more than an academic institution; it is a platform for transformation, providing the tools and knowledge necessary to uplift our communities.”

The college will offer a wide range of degree programs designed to meet the demands of the modern workforce, along with 50 new certificate programs. With a focus on affordability and accessibility, the institution seeks to attract a diverse student body ready to make innovative and impactful contributions in their fields.

“By establishing this college, I hope to inspire the next generation of leaders and innovators, who will carry forward the torch of progress and equality,” Miller added. “We are committed to creating an environment that not only educates but also empowers students to drive positive change in their communities and beyond.”
