Retired boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. is setting his sights on the NFL, exploring a potential ownership stake in the New York Giants.

According to TMZ Sports, Mayweather and his business partner, real estate mogul Meyer Orbach, are reportedly assembling an offer valued at approximately US$700 million.

“My partners and I are always looking at different opportunities, including ownership of sports teams. I can’t comment further than that,” Orbach told TMZ Sports. Mayweather, 47, has yet to make a public statement on the matter.

Orbach is no stranger to sports ownership. Since 2016, he has held nearly a 20 percent stake in the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves, bringing valuable experience to the potential bid.

The New York Giants, one of the NFL’s most storied franchises, were valued at US$7.3 billion by Forbes in August 2024. Since their inception, they have claimed eight championships – four in the pre-Super Bowl era (1927, 1934, 1938, and 1956) and four Super Bowl victories (XXI, XXV, XLII, and XLVI).

If successful, Mayweather’s move into NFL ownership would mark a significant crossover from the boxing world to the high-stakes business of professional football.
