CARICOM Explores Regional Stock Exchange to Unify Fragmented Capital Markets
The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has awarded a US$100,000 grant to the CARICOM Private Sector Organization (CPSO) to assess the feasibility of a regional stock exchange. The initiative aims to integrate the Caribbean’s fragmented capital markets and improve access to capital across the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).
Despite multiple local exchanges, Caribbean capital markets remain siloed, restricting cross-border investment and limiting scale. A unified regional exchange could enhance liquidity, lower financing costs, and unlock vital funding for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), including those led by women and youth.
upported jointly by the CDB and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), this US$324,700 Phase I study will evaluate regulatory frameworks, international models, and regional demand. The findings will be presented at a regional symposium to guide policymakers in advancing Caribbean financial integration and economic resilience.
