Red Lobster, a prominent restaurant brand in the United States, recently named 35-year-old Damola Adamolekun as its new CEO.

Originally from Nigeria and raised in the U.S., Damola’s story highlights the power of the African diaspora, blending a global perspective with exceptional business acumen.

His impressive career began at Goldman Sachs, where he honed his financial skills, followed by his successful tenure as the former CEO of P.F. Chang’s. There, he led a significant turnaround, steering the brand to generate approximately US$1 billion in revenue and revitalizing its presence in a competitive market.

Damola’s appointment comes at a critical juncture for Red Lobster, which recently faced serious financial challenges, including a near-bankruptcy situation. With a strong background in private equity as a partner at Golden Gate Capital and a keen strategic vision, he is well-positioned to guide Red Lobster back to stability and growth. His proven track record of driving change and delivering results equips him to lead the brand through this transformative period.

What makes Damola’s leadership particularly noteworthy is his role as one of the few Black CEOs in the restaurant industry, underscoring the growing influence of diverse leadership in corporate America. His appointment is a testament to the importance of representation and inclusion at the executive level.

Executives at Fortress Investment Group, which recently acquired Red Lobster, are optimistic about the brand’s future under Damola’s leadership. Their decision to bring him on board reflects their confidence in his ability to rejuvenate the company.

Adamolekun shares this optimism and is eager to implement his investment strategy while connecting with customers. He believes strongly in Red Lobster’s potential and is committed to ensuring its success.

“Red Lobster’s future is brighter now than ever before – I cannot wait to get started on our investment plan and to get out and meet diners across the USA and Canada,” Adamolekun stated in a media release announcing his appointment.
