Crime under control in Brown’s Town

BROWN’S TOWN, St Ann:”CRIME IS under control in Brown’s Town these days.

Saturday, July 23, 2011

“Crime Is under control in Brown’s Town these days. The most you will find are domestic disputes. We are not plagued by most of the other crimes affecting other areas,” a policeman told reporters during a recent visit to the bustling town in St Ann.

This view was supported by members of the business community, who cited traffic congestion, the poor condition of outgoing roads and lack of housing as more immediate problems.

“Generally, the police have done a good job. Crime is not too high in Brown’s Town. The major roads are in a good condition, but, as you can see, the offshoots are bad. I know the constraints that the Government has to go through and the economic problem that we have worldwide, so I can understand the type of pressure that they are under,” Fabian Escoffery said. He has done business in the town for more than 30 years and is part of the management team at F&M Escoffery Company Limited.

Clifton Edwards adds his views: “Crime in this area is fairly controlled at this time. You have little petty crime. A person might steal a phone or steal a handbag or so, but the real extortionist we don’t have in this area at this time.” He has been in business since 1979 and is the owner of Trewick Equipment, which manufactures decorative blocks, building blocks and balusters as well as sells aggregate and renting equipment.
