Friday, September 6, 2024

Barbados has made history as the first country to introduce a national AI Agronomic Advisor, setting a groundbreaking precedent in the global agricultural sector. This innovative effort is a collaboration between the Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (BADMC) and global agtech leader AGRIVI, designed to enhance the productivity and sustainability of farming across the island-nation.

The AI Agronomic Advisor, a virtual agronomy expert, is accessible to all Barbadian farmers through WhatsApp, providing 24/7 expert guidance. This platform creates a direct communication channel between BADMC and the farming community, offering real-time advice on critical agricultural issues. The aim is to empower farmers by delivering crucial knowledge at their fingertips, helping improve both their productivity and the sustainability of their practices.

Barbados’ Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Nutritional Security highlighted the significance of this development, stating: “The launch of the AI Agronomic Advisor is a major advancement for our agricultural sector. With cutting-edge AI technology, we are delivering real-time, critical advice to thousands of farmers, which will drive productivity, sustainability, and growth in our agriculture sector. Our collaboration with AGRIVI on farm management solutions has motivated us to extend this initiative, using AI to support farmers, create economic opportunities, and strengthen food security in Barbados.”

Farmers can easily interact with the AI Agronomic Advisor via WhatsApp, receiving customized guidance as needed. The platform provides instant access to key information on farming, financing, subsidies, and government support, fostering a closer relationship between BADMC and farmers. Additionally, it promotes knowledge sharing, education, and skill-building, all part of the broader push towards digitalizing agriculture.

AGRIVI’s founder and CEO, Matija Zulj, underscored the importance of the partnership: “governments are crucial in advancing farm productivity, sustainability, and livelihoods. We are proud that Barbados and BADMC have selected AGRIVI as their trusted partner for agricultural digitalization. Our Engage AI Advisory platform ensures that all farms, regardless of size, can access immediate, expert knowledge through familiar communication channels. We are thrilled to assist Barbados in creating a lasting, positive impact on agriculture.”

AGRIVI, a pioneering agtech company with over a decade of experience in digital agriculture across 50 countries, is providing its advanced AI technology to this collaboration. Their expertise is enabling Barbados to lead the way in sustainable agriculture, offering farmers tools to boost efficiency, profitability, and food security.

The launch of the AI Agronomic Advisor signifies a major step forward for agriculture in Barbados, heralding a new era of tech-driven support and sustainable growth for the country’s farming community.
