Rwandan Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente has presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kigali Innovation City (KIC) in Masoro. The US$300 million initiative aims to transform Kigali into a continental innovation hub, increase ICT exports by US$150 million, and generate 50,000 jobs.

Key details:

Kigali Innovation City (KIC) is being developed as a mixed-use, master-planned innovation hub, covering 60 hectares (148 acres) in Kigali. The project aims to nurture pan-African talent and serve as a center for technological innovation.

Plans include four universities, office spaces, start-up business incubators, and supporting facilities for retail, hospitality, and accommodation.

Africa50 will structure the project as a public-private partnership (PPP) with a strategic sponsor (to be selected), with opportunities for other investors to join in the future.
