Kenyan company, JamboPay wins top Google innovation prize
Kenyan electronic payment firm JamboPay has won a Google innovation award for financial services.
The five-year-old company provides a payment service that integrates mobile money and payment card technology. It has a customer base of 600 businesses locally and has expanded to the Tanzanian, Senegalese and Dutch markets.
Development of e-commerce in Kenya has faced various challenges, including the lack of reliable payment systems. JamboPay won because of its innovative approach to financial service provisions.
JamboPay chief executive Danson Muchemi called on counties and the Kenya’s federal government to leverage electronic payment technology when collecting revenue.
