Sporedust Media: A Nigerian animation company aiming to be Africa’s Pixar equivalent
Sporedust Media, a Nigerian animation startup is on track to becoming Africa’s equivalent of Pixar.
According to the company’s CEO and co-founder, Shina Ajulo (pictured below), Sporedust Media intends to bring back back traditional African storytelling.
The company has already create a short cartoon series named “Chicken Core” that will form the basis basis of a film or television series that is part of the rapid expansion of the creative industries and content on the African continent.
“Chicken Core” is a Nigerian animated feature which follows the adventures of a group of chicken warriors in their quest to rid the land of Amaji from the clutches of the tyrannous Boar King and his minions. It was first conceived in 2006, based on characters created by Ajulo and his partners, drawing inspiration from Nigeria’s rich culture.
Ajulo who is self taught in animation, co-founded the Lagos-based Sporedust Media in 2012. He dropped out of college to pursue his passion – animation. Spordedust Media presently employs 30 people.
