HBCU – Meharry Medical College Expands to Memphis
Meharry Medical College, a historically Black institution based in Nashville, has officially launched its new program in Memphis, aiming to strengthen the city’s healthcare workforce.
The initiative is designed to support medical students and residents during their clinical training in Memphis while encouraging graduates to return and serve the local community. It also connects Meharry-trained physicians with career opportunities in the area.
In addition to clinical support, the program includes outreach efforts targeting students from kindergarten through high school, inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals in Memphis.
The program will operate out of Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church.
“Meharry’s presence in Memphis reflects our mission to serve communities with both great need and untapped potential,” said Dr. James E.K. Hildreth Sr., president and CEO of Meharry. “Our holistic approach equips physicians, dentists, and researchers to address chronic diseases that disproportionately affect communities of color.
We’re excited to partner with local leaders and organizations to help create a healthier Memphis.”
