Barbados to Hold Early General Election on February 11, 2026
Barbados will hold a general election on February 11, 2026, Prime Minister Mia Mottley announced, advancing the vote by roughly a year from its constitutional deadline.
Parliament will be dissolved on January 19, with Nomination Day set for January 27. The ruling Barbados Labour Party (BLP) has finalized candidates for all 30 seats in the House of Assembly.
Mottley’s decision follows months of speculation and mirrors her previous early dissolutions of Parliament. She has cited strong economic performance, including 17 consecutive quarters of growth, record-low unemployment, and historically high foreign reserves, as grounds for seeking a renewed mandate.
The prime minister led the BLP to unprecedented 30–0 victories in the 2018 and 2022 elections, leaving the opposition without parliamentary representation. Campaign activity is expected to intensify ahead of the February poll.
