Prime Minister Terrance Drew of St. Kitts & Nevis has disclosed that he suffered a stroke caused by a vertebral artery dissection, but says he is recovering well and plans to resume his duties soon.

In a public statement, Drew said doctors traced the stroke to a tear in an artery at the back of his brain. He reported that his movement, speech, and cognitive function remain intact, and that he has been discharged from hospital, and is undergoing physical and occupational therapy.

During his medical absence, government operations have continued uninterrupted. Drew delegated his executive responsibilities to Deputy Prime Minister Geoffrey Hanley and the Cabinet prior to his departure, describing the administrative transition as seamless.

Drew said he looks forward to returning to work, lead the Cabinet, rejoin Parliament, and represent his constituency.
