Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley announced three postgraduate scholarships for Black Studies and reparatory justice, offered via the University of the West Indies and the University of Glasgow. At least three Barbadians will earn master’s degrees in Glasgow under the initiative.

Mottley called the program “freedom carried into knowledge,” linking descendants of enslaved Africans to academic work on justice. In her Emancipation Day address, she honored rebel leader Bussa and stressed that legal freedom did not restore stolen land or wealth.

She added that “an apology without repair is eloquence without justice,” and urged continued action against modern inequality.
