Colorado’s Travis Hunter has been awarded the 2024 Heisman Trophy, becoming the first defender to receive the honor since Michigan’s Charles Woodson in 1997.

The two-way standout, playing as a wide receiver and cornerback for the Buffaloes, edged out Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty for college football’s top accolade.

Hunter credited his success to head coach Deion Sanders, stating, “I thank him so much for changing my life forever.” Hunter followed Sanders to Colorado, inspired by the coach’s belief in his game-changing potential.

In addition to the Heisman, Hunter swept multiple prestigious awards, including the Associated Press and Walter Camp Player of the Year, Bednarik Award (best defensive player), Biletnikoff Award (top wide receiver), Paul Hornung Award (most versatile player), and Lott IMPACT Trophy (top defensive player).

Hunter’s remarkable season saw him dominate on both sides of the ball, logging over 110 snaps per game. Offensively, he tallied 92 catches, 1,152 yards, and 14 touchdowns, while defensively recording four interceptions and 11 pass breakups. He is the first player in history to win major individual awards as both a defender and an offensive player.

“It starts with your mindset,” Hunter said. “If you believe you can do it, then you’ll be able to do it.”
