Transition in Jamaica smooth as Golding readies to step down
Education minister, Andrew Holness is on track to becoming the next Prime Minister of Jamaica, should he remain unopposed on October 19.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding (pictured), revealed this week that he has just days left in office.
Two weeks earlier he had said he would step down as Jamaica Labor Party (JLP) leader on November 19, and would leave office soon after, once his replacement was elected.
It now already appears that Holness’ ascension to head of government is certain. Holness has accompanied the Golding to Washington to assure multilateral agencies, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank, that the government’s policies will remain unchanged during and after the transition.
