Stephanie Hill becomes Chair, Board of Directors, of the Greater Baltimore Committee
(PRNewswire) – Stephanie Hill, Vice President and General Manager of Lockheed Martin’s Ship & Aviation Systems line of business for Mission Systems & Training, has been elected as the new Chair of the Board of Directors of the Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC).
“Stephanie Hill is an exceptional leader, and a strong advocate for the Baltimore region. We are pleased that she has been elected as our new board chair,” said Donald C. Fry, President and CEO of the Greater Baltimore Committee.
Hill, a Baltimore native who joined the GBC’s board of directors in 2008, is the first African-American woman elected to serve as chair of the GBC board. She was unanimously elected by the GBC’s Board of Directors on November 13. She replaces David Warnock, managing partner and co-founder of Camden Partners. He stepped down from the chair position November 3 to run for mayor of Baltimore in the 2016 election.
“It is an incredible honor to take a leading role in supporting the Greater Baltimore Committee’s rich tradition of bringing private-sector innovation and ideas to the fore and develop lasting solutions to tough challenges and issues affecting the Baltimore region,” Hill said.
Hill said she looks forward to leading and strengthening the GBC’s role as an influential, independent voice and thoughtful leader on key issues affecting not only the business and private sectors in the Greater Baltimore area, but also those of public concern, including social, transportation and economic issues.
“The vital role the GBC plays in the Greater Baltimore area can’t be overstated and I’m excited to get to work and ensure that role continues to be elevated and appreciated,” Hill added.
With a mayoral election and a number of major events and initiatives planned in the city and the region, Fry said Hill’s leadership skills will be tapped often.
“It’s an exciting time for the GBC as we have a number of new programs underway to help address major challenges and serve the greater good in the region. We are honored to have a leader with Stephanie Hill’s ability to inspire ideas and action,” Fry said.
Along with her active involvement with the GBC during her tenure on the board of directors, Hill has been involved in many other civic and community organizations in the Baltimore region, including the Maryland Business Roundtable and University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Board of Visitors. She also serves on the board of directors of Project Lead the Way, a leading provider of K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs.
She is the recipient of many awards, including earning the President’s Award from the Greater Baltimore Committee in 2013 for her support of minority business development, a sign of her commitment to mentoring others.
