Timothy Harris and his opposition alliance have claimed electoral victory in the St Kitts & Nevis general elections.

There is confusion regarding the outcome of the poll in the twin-island nation as the supervisor of elections has reportedly suspended announcing the results of the returns of the constituency representatives.

Hours after all polling stations closed, the state-owned ZIZ radio announced
early Tuesday that there would be no more announcement of results.

According to the statement, “the count in St Kitts & Nevis has come to a halt. The Supervisor of Elections has advised that for the rest of this morning in any event, no further public announcement will be made in respect of the count.”

The elections had been contested between incumbent prime minister Denzil Douglas and his ruling St Kitts & Nevis Labor Party (SKNLP) and Team Unity, an amalgamation of three opposition parties, led by Timothy Harris. They are seeking control of the 15-member National Assembly.

Denzil Douglas was aiming to become the first leader in the region to win 5 consecutive general elections. -(CMC)
