Retired basketball star Kobe Bryant dies in helicopter crash
NBA legend Kobe Bryant has died in a helicopter crash aged just 41.
Retired basketball star Kobe Bryant has been killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California on Sunday morning, TMZ reported.
Bryant was traveling with at least 4 other people in his private helicopter when it went down, killing everyone on board.
Officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to reports of the crash near Las Virgenes Rd and Willow Glen St in Calabasas at around 10am local time after a fire broke out.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. It is unclear where the chopper departed from or where it was headed when it went down.
Bryant is survived by his wife Vanessa and their 4 daughters – Gianna, Natalia and Bianca and newborn Capri.
He spent his entire 20-year basketball career with the L.A. Lakers, winning 5 NBA championships and 18 All-Star titles before he retired in 2016.
He was the first guard in NBA history to play at least 20 seasons.
Following his retirement from basketball, he had launched a venture capital fund – Bryant Stibel – that invests in media, technology and data companies.
