Obama Promotes Policy Plans in Wisconsin

Thursday, January 30, 2014

U.S. President Barack Obama is making stops in Wisconsin and Tennessee to promote the policy plans he laid out earlier this week in his State of the Union Address. The president began the day by visiting a General Electric-owned gas-engine facility near Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

He stated that businesses like General Electric have created millions of new jobs and helped bring the unemployment rate to its lowest in five years. He also called 2014 a “breakthrough year for America,” saying that the United States is better positioned to thrive than any other country.

Later on, the president plans to speak to high school students in Nashville, Tennessee where he will explain his ideas for tax code reform, job creation, education opportunities, and innovation funding. This is a well known tradition for presidents to travel after delivering their annual address to Congress, in order to pitch their legislative goals for the year ahead.

However, Republican response to Obama’s speech on Tuesday, as stated by Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington state, was to blame Obama’s administration policies for widening the gap between where people’s lives stand now and where they want to be.
