The Black Equipment Finance Network recently awarded its inaugural scholarships to two students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), marking a significant milestone in their mission to promote diversity and inclusion in the equipment finance industry. These scholarships, facilitated through a collaboration between the Certified Lease & Finance Professional (CLFP) Foundation and Cisco Capital, cover study materials, test preparation classes, and the Certified Lease & Finance Professional certification exam costs.

The scholarship program aims to provide specialized training and certification opportunities to HBCU students studying business and finance who are interested in pursuing careers in the equipment finance sector. It offers a comprehensive introduction to the industry, including guest speakers, networking events, CLFP training, exam opportunities, and potential internship/full-time job placements with participating companies.

George Parker, president of the Black Equipment Finance Network, expressed excitement about the initiative, emphasizing the importance of introducing HBCU students to the equipment finance sector. He highlighted the industry’s substantial size, exceeding US$1 trillion, and noted that it often goes unnoticed by students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds.

Reid Raykovich, CEO of the CLFP Foundation, praised the support from the Black Equipment Finance Network, underscoring the significance of their involvement in promoting diversity and awareness in the industry. He emphasized the importance of attracting diverse talent to build a stronger and more inclusive sector.

Looking ahead, the Black Equipment Finance Network plans to expand this initiative by offering additional scholarships in 2024, further advancing their commitment to fostering diversity and opportunity within the equipment finance industry.
