Barclays Africa’s Kennedy Bungane Resigns His Post
Barclays Africa’s chief executive of regional management and head of strategy Kennedy Bungane has resigned. Bungane is set to leave the Barclays Africa Group Limited this June to pursue other business interests. “We would like to extend our thanks to Kennedy for his valuable contribution,” Maria Ramos, group chief executive of Barclays Africa said.
Ramos noted that Bungane’s contribution includes the role he has played in supporting the creation of the Barclays Africa Group and the development and execution of the group’s African growth strategy. Bungane said he had resolved to change sectors and pursue new experiences.
He said, “After a fulfilling career I have decided to change industries and gain new experiences. I am privileged to have played a part in the creation of Barclays Africa, which has been the highlight of my banking career.” He also added, “I am most grateful to Maria Ramos and my Africa executive colleagues for the opportunity to contribute to building the ‘Go-To’ bank in Africa and for the friendships and support as we have worked together to redefine banking on the continent.”
Bungane has extensive experience in financial services, having served in the position of chief executive of corporate and investment banking South Africa at Standard Bank since 2009. The Harvard trained banker started his career in retail at Standard Bank 1991 and held a variety of senior positions. At Barclays Africa, Bungane was responsible for operational and business activities outside South Africa and leading business strategy across the region.
