Trinidad & Tobago, Grenada struck by 5.7 magnitude earthquake

A 5.7 magnitude earthquake has hit parts of the Caribbean including Grenada and Trinidad & Tobago. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties.

The location of its epicenter was placed 105 kilometers (65 miles) west of Trinidad & Tobago’s capital, Port of Spain.

The University of the West Indies Seismic Research Center Facebook page was flooded with reports of people saying they felt “strong” shaking – many of the reports indicated that they had experienced two earthquakes.

However, the Seismic Research Center explained that there are several seismic waves associated with earthquakes but the 2 notable ones are the primary and secondary waves. Primary waves travel faster and are recorded and felt first while secondary waves are slower but can cause greater damage. -(CMC)
