Tanzania has begun construction of the Mangapwani Integrated Port in Zanzibar, a US$300 million facility set to become one of East Africa’s most advanced maritime hubs.

The port will accommodate container vessels carrying up to 15,000 TEUs and feature three berths, enabling multiple large ships to dock simultaneously. A dedicated 200-megawatt power plant will be built alongside the facility, providing a reliable electricity supply for a minimum of 15 years.

When complete, the Mangapwani Integrated Port is expected to rank among the most sophisticated port facilities on the continent.
