Grenada General Election: Prime Minister Mobilizes for Imminent Vote

Grenada’s Prime Minister, Dickon Mitchell, has signaled an impending general election, urging supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to begin grassroots mobilization ahead of an expected year-end poll.

Speaking at an NDC mini-rally on early this week, Mitchell urged supporters to canvass door-to-door, confirm voter registration and identify polling divisions.

Mitchell, who led the NDC to victory in June 2022, has not set a date. Grenada law permits Parliament to be dissolved before its five-year term ends.

Mitchell anchored his pitch in recent economic metrics, highlighting the introduction of a national minimum wage and a sharp decline in unemployment. Government figures indicate the overall jobless rate fell from 16.6 percent in mid-2021 to 7.5 percent by October 2025, with youth unemployment halving to 20.2 percent over the same period.

The prime minister indicated that a formal election announcement will arrive shortly, positioning his administration on a platform of economic delivery and expanded representation.
