Earthquakes recorded in several Caribbean countries

Caribbean countries continue to be rattled by earthquakes over the past 48 hours with the Trinidad & Tobago-based Seismic Research Centre (SRC) of the University of the West Indies (UWI) noting that the latest tremor occurred on Monday night.

According to the SRC, the earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 occurred at 8.47 pm (local time) and was felt 75 kilometers (47 miles) west in San Fernando, east of Port of Spain, as well as 81 kilometers (51 miles) southwest and 103 kilometers (65 miles) southwest of Arima.

The earthquake had a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles). There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries as a result.

The SRC also reported that at 9:27 pm on Sunday night, an earthquake with a magnitude 3.9 rattled Antigua & Barbuda, St. Kitts & Nevis, and the island of Guadeloupe.

It said that the quake, at a depth 10 kilometers (6 miles), was felt 110 kilometers (66 miles) north, northwest of St John’s in Antigua, 113 kilometers (68 miles) northeast of Basseterre, St. Kitts & Nevis and 212 kilometers (127 miles), north, northwest of Point-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe. -(CMC)
