Earthquake of 5.7 magnitude rocks Trinidad & Tobago and surrounding region

A powerful 5.7 earthquake was felt in sections of Trinidad & Tobago and as far north as St. Vincent & the Grenadines on Sunday.

According to a report from the Seismic Research Center at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine campus, the earthquake was felt around 11:00 am local time, approximately 68 kilometers (42 miles) northwest of Tobago and 84 kilometers (52 miles) southeast of Grenada.

The Seismic Research Center report said that in Trinidad & Tobago, the effects of the earthquake were felt in the towns of Arima, Carapichaima, El Dorado, San Juan, Barataria and Valsayn.

Thus far, there have been no reports of damage or injuries. – (CMC)
