Dodridge D. Miller named new Chancellor of The University of the West Indies
The University of the West Indies (UWI) has recently announced the appointment of Dodridge D. Miller as its seventh Chancellor, marking him as the highest-ranking official within the institution.
Miller is set to embark on a seven-year tenure commencing August 1, 2024, succeeding Robert Bermudez, who has held the position since 2017.
During a virtual annual business meeting held on Friday, the university’s council ratified the recommendation of the Chancellor’s Search Committee, officially appointing Miller to the prestigious role.
A distinguished alumnus of UWI, Miller brings with him over three decades of exemplary leadership experience in the banking, insurance, and financial services arenas across the Caribbean.
Previously serving as the Group President and Chief Executive Officer of Sagicor Financial Company for more than twenty years until his retirement in March 2023, Miller has long been recognized as a luminary figure in the region.
Upon confirmation of his appointment, Miller expressed his gratitude, stating, “It is with great humility that I accept your appointment as Chancellor of this distinguished and vital institution. Throughout my career, I have championed the cause of a robust and dynamic UWI. As a corporate leader, I have consistently supported its mission and remained steadfast in my belief in the potential of the region’s human capital.”
He continued, “As Chancellor, I am committed to upholding the university’s enduring principles and values. With your collective guidance and support, I aim to contribute to the pivotal task of shaping a sustainable Caribbean that can confidently engage with the global community on equal footing. I eagerly anticipate joining The UWI’s journey toward the continued advancement of our region. It is a profound honor for me.”
