Aspiring Engineers to receive U.S. Army support at National Society of Black Engineers 39th Annual Convention
(Black PR Wire) – Alexandria, Va. – For the third consecutive year, the U.S. Army will share career and educational opportunities with current and aspiring engineers at the 39th annual convention of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) in Indianapolis, Ind. More than 9,000 participants are expected to attend the convention, as well as the career and college fair. NSBE is a student managed organization that seeks to increase the number of African-American engineers by providing training, professional development, scholarships and more.
The U.S. Army’s partnership with NSBE helps to create pathways to college and Army officership among African Americans. This helps to ensure the Army’s officer corps is representative of the nation it serves and the soldiers it leads. The Army and NSBE share a commitment to preparing minority students for academic and career success in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) related fields, whether as soldiers or civilians.
This year’s NSBE convention theme is “#NSBE2013: Honoring Our Past, Driving Our Community Forward” and it kicks off on Wednesday, Mar. 27 at the Indiana Convention Center. The U.S. Army will have an interactive booth at the career fair, as well as judge the science fair and engineering design competitions.
