African, Caribbean Nations to Establish AI Education Hub
Former Jamaican Prime Minister PJ Patterson announced that the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has approved funding for a pioneering AI education hub. Speaking at the PJ Patterson Institute for Africa-Caribbean Advocacy’s annual symposium at the University of the West Indies, he emphasized the initiative’s role in advancing education, technology, and global influence in the region.
The project stems from a challenge issued by Afreximbank President Benedict Oramah and has been developed by the Institute and its scholars. The AI hub will serve as a research and innovation center, positioning African and Caribbean nations as key players in global technology.
With financial and partnership agreements nearing completion, the hub aims to equip future generations with essential digital skills.
Beyond AI, the Institute seeks to bridge educational gaps, promote African identity in learning, and foster academic exchange. Patterson stressed the importance of education in national development and cultural preservation, urging a renewed focus on Africa’s historical contributions to global knowledge.
He underscored the Institute’s collaborative approach, reinforcing that its mission is to empower minds rather than replace existing educational institutions.
This initiative marks a step toward redefining African and Caribbean education, ensuring future generations see themselves in history, understand their present value, and confidently shape the future.
