Robert F. Smith, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Vista Equity Partners, has affirmed his position that businesses will maintain their commitment to recruiting highly qualified and diverse talent, notwithstanding recent policy changes implemented by the Trump administration.

During an address at the Economic Club of New York on Wednesday, Smith underscored that organizations remain dedicated to attracting exceptional talent, despite several major corporations, including Walmart and Amazon, reducing their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives following President Trump’s January executive order terminating federal DEI programs. “As businesses, we are obligated to adhere to U.S. laws,” stated Smith, who is recognized as one of the most influential executives in the private equity sector.

Smith oversees Vista Equity Partners, which maintains investments in approximately 90 portfolio companies with a combined workforce exceeding 100,000 employees.
