Ushahidi co-founder Juliana Rotich becomes venture partner in Africa Technology

Kenyan serial entrepreneur and on of the foremost players in Africa’s Silicon Savanna Juliana Rotich has joined venture fund – Africa Technology Ventures – as a venture partner.

The venture fund, which is in the process of raising US$50 million – will be based in both Nairobi and Lagos, Nigeria – aims to support the establishment of tech start-ups in East Africa and Nigeria. According to Rotich, Africa Technology Ventures will focus on the following sectors: Agriculture, Education, Energy, Financial Services and Healthcare.

Juliana Rotich brings a wealth of experience to the venture fund: She is the co-founder and executive director of the crowd sourcing platform Ushahidi; she was on the founding team of that developed the BRCK – designed and engineered as a rugged, self-powered, mobile Wi-Fi device which connects people and things to the internet in areas of the world with poor infrastructure; she is also a trustee of the tech innovation community in Kenya – iHub and currently serves on advisory boards which include the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on Data Driven Development and the Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Board.
