Uganda:Parliament To debate Heritage Oil Dispute
The speaker of Uganda’s parliament has recalled the national assembly from recess for an emergency session to debate the tax disagreement between the government and London-listed Heritage Oil PLC, the parliamentary clerk said Friday.
The legislators who petitioned for the debate want to know why the government agreed to an arbitration process in London to resolve the dispute, rather than using Ugandan courts, and are calling for more transparency on deals struck with oil firms.
