Trinidad & Tobago and Grenada shaken by earthquake

A magnitude 3.8 earthquake rattled two Caribbean nations early Tuesday morning, but there were no reports of injuries or damage.

The Seismic Research Centre (SRC) at the St Augustine campus of the University of the West Indies reported that the tremor occurred at 4:57 a.m. (local time) at a location of Latitude: 11.13N, Longitude: 61.94W, and at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles).

According to the SRC, the quake was felt 70 kilometers (42 miles) northwest of Port of Spain, 91 kilometers (55 miles) northwest of Arima, east of the capital, and 104 kilometers (62 miles) south-southwest of St George’s, the capital of Grenada.

This earthquake is the latest in a series of seismic events affecting the Caribbean in recent days. A magnitude 4.1 quake was felt in St John’s, Antigua & Barbuda; Brades in Montserrat, and Basseterre in St. Kitts & Nevis just two days prior, while another earthquake measuring 4.0 was experienced in Fort-de-France, Martinique; Castries, St. Lucia, and Roseau, Dominica three days ago.
