The Bahamas: Former official urges caution in the implementation of stem cell therapy

Former Bahamas Minister of Health Dr. Marcus Bethel has warned of the potential for abuse if stem cell therapy is not properly regulated in The Bahamas.

Bethel, who was part of the former Christie administration, banned stem cell therapy in The Bahamas in 2004, after it was discovered that such procedures were bing conducted at a Freeport clinic without any regulations in place.

The current Christie government intends to explore stem cell therapy.

The current Minister of Health, Dr. Perry Gomez has appointed a task force to produce recommendations for the regulation of stem cell therapy.
