St. Kitts & Nevis has assumed the chairmanship of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), with Prime Minister Terrance Drew pledging to prioritize regional solidarity and integration amid global uncertainty.

In his inaugural message, Drew affirmed a “deep dedication” to CARICOM’s ideals, succeeding outgoing Chairman Andrew Holness of Jamaica. He framed deeper unity as an urgent necessity for the bloc.

“None will come to save us. We must save ourselves,” Drew stated, referencing external geopolitical and policy pressures.

Drew called for stronger coordination and clearer priorities among member states. His tenure will culminate in St. Kitts & Nevis hosting CARICOM’s 50th Regular Meeting of Heads of Government in February 2026.

The leadership transition occurs as CARICOM monitors developments in Venezuela, advocating for peaceful dialogue and stability. The bloc’s bureau noted it is closely watching the situation, particularly regarding regional citizen security and potential economic impacts.

Drew’s chairmanship is expected to focus on reinforcing Caribbean resilience and advancing long-stalled integration efforts.
