Kenya’s wireless provider, Safaricom has launched MPESA Ratiba, a groundbreaking feature on its M-PESA mobile money platform that enables users to set up standing orders directly from their MPESA wallets. With MPESA Ratiba, users can automate recurring payments and transactions, such as bills or subscriptions, effortlessly and securely.

The feature allows users to schedule automatic transfers from their M-PESA wallets to another person or service on a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly basis. This simplifies the management of recurring expenses, providing convenience and peace of mind.

MPESA Ratiba offers several benefits, including an easy setup process and no penalties for canceled or failed transactions due to insufficient funds.

“Safaricom continues to transform lives by delivering personalized digital financial services. MPESA Ratiba enables customers to make hassle-free digital payments and manage their finances seamlessly,” said Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa. “We are continually innovating to provide customers with greater control, visibility, and security over their financial health.”

As the first mobile money feature to introduce standing orders, MPESA Ratiba plays a crucial role in promoting financial inclusion for the underbanked, supporting Kenya’s shift toward a cash-lite economy.

MPESA Ratiba will also unlock new opportunities for subscription-based services in sectors such as media, entertainment, technology, healthcare, education, and e-commerce, enhancing customer experiences within the financial services ecosystem.

Users can set up MPESA Ratiba for regular payments like rent, school fees, insurance, newspaper subscriptions, utility bills, or to send support to family members.

To access MPESA Ratiba, users can navigate to the Financial Services tab on the MPESA App. After reviewing and accepting the terms and conditions, they can activate the feature using their MPESA PIN and select which standing orders to set up.

Since its launch in 2020, the MPESA super app has evolved into a comprehensive lifestyle application, offering over 80 mini-apps for payments, savings, and access to credit. The addition of M-PESA Ratiba further cements Safaricom’s vision of transforming lives through innovative financial solutions.
