Malmsey Rangaka – co-founder and CEO of M’hudi Wines
Malmsey Rangaka is co-founder and CEO of M’hudi Wines, a family wine farm located in Stellenbosch, South Africa. The M’hudi wine brands are sold not only in South Africa but also the on the African continent; the United States, and Europe.
Ms. Rangaka and her husband founded the M’hudi Wines in 2003 and in 2005, M’hudi released its first vintage.
M’hudi Wines is the first wine tourism farm to be 100 percent owned and managed by an ordinary black South African family in the Stellenbosch Winelands.
Ms. Rangaka has had to over come tremendous challenges, considering that at inception, there were almost no black wineries in South Africa. The absence of black-owned productive capacity meant that Ms. Rangaka had to depend on others and to learn that far from being a welcome development, the presence of black people in the industry was received with hostility. Many black-owned wine companies failed to make it past the first year.
Prior to founding M’hudi wines, Rangaka worked as a clinical psychologist working for a government department in the North West Province of South Africa.
