Femi Akinde – Founder and CEO SlimTrader

Femi Akinde, is the founder and CEO of SlimTrader, a company which is focusing on mobile payment technologies, mobile storefronts empowering consumers, and widening the reach of businesses in Africa.

SlimTrader, (founded in 2009), provides an e-commerce marketplace that enables brands and customers to conveniently and efficiently transact through text messages, no Internet access required is required.

SlimTrader continues to grow, and it provides services in West Africa, South Africa and East Africa.

The event that led to Akinde founding SlimTrader happened when he was travelling in Nigeria and had to purchase an airline ticket. He was in an area that did not have Internet access, the transaction took a day to close, because he could not do it online or on phone.

Prior to founding SlimTrader, Akinde had held a number of positions at Microsoft and T-Mobile.

Femi Akinde is an alumnus of the University of Chicago where he earned his MBA, and was named to the the TEDGlobal Fellows class of 2011.
