Mobile phone number portability coming to Jamaica on June 22
Jamaica will finally introduce mobile number portability on 22 June, approximately three weeks later than scheduled, after the government accepted a request to temporarily postpone the process from LIME, the local subsidiary of Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC).
According to a report in local daily Jamaica Gleaner, LIME requested additional time to ensure optimum performance of its system and put the final touches to its implementation. LIME, shortly to be rebranded as Flow, currently has 25 percent of the mobile market in Jamaica, according to the country’s Office of Utilities Regulations, with Digicel retaining the remaining 75 percent.
