Manufacturer’s association, Opposition to discuss job creation
The Jamaica Manufacturer’s Association (JMA) and the opposition People’s National Party (PNP) are in the process of setting up discussions regarding the viability of the PNP’s job creation vehicle – known as the Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme (JEEP).
The initiative was first announced by PNP President (and former Prime Minister), Portia Simpson-Miller at the party’s annual conference. The details of the proposed job creation programme are yet to be revealed.
Simpson-Miller had indicated that JEEP would create employment across a whole range of industries.
JMA Deputy President Metry Seaga, indicated, that if the JEEP is found to be a viable solution the unemployment problem, the governing Jamaica Labor Party (JLP) administration, should adopt it and implement it “right away”.
The president of the Young Entrepreneurs Association, Samuel Coates, believes JEEP is a good concept that would help to alleviate the country’s unemployment problem.
