Kenya and Senegal Sign Landmark Visa-Free Travel Agreement
In a move to deepen diplomatic and economic cooperation, Kenya and Senegal have signed a landmark visa waiver agreement allowing citizens of both nations to travel visa-free for up to 90 days.
The deal was formalized in Nairobi on Tuesday during a bilateral meeting between Kenyan President William Ruto and Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. “This milestone will strengthen people-to-people ties and catalyze tourism, trade, and collaboration,” President Ruto said following the talks at State House.
While the waiver eliminates the need for traditional visas, Kenya will still require Senegalese travelers to obtain a free electronic travel authorization (eTA) prior to departure. Both governments stressed that overstays will not be tolerated, and implementation details – including the policy’s effective date – will be finalized through the existing Joint Commission for Cooperation.
The agreement marks a strategic step toward greater African mobility and regional integration, aligning with broader continental efforts to ease cross-border movement under the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
