The Jamaica Promotions Corporation aim is to engage key business interests and present the island as a viable investment destination.

Thursday, June 23, 2011

Major investment opportunities from targeted sectors in Jamaica will be presented to key players in the Canadian business community on today at the “Invest in Jamaica” forum organised by the Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) at the Delta Chelsea Hotel in Toronto.

The Jamaican delegation at the event will seek to engage key Canadian business interests and present the island as a viable investment destination with potentially lucrative opportunities, a business-friendly environment and attractive incentives.

The forum, which will feature Industry, Investment and Commerce Minister Karl Samuda as the keynote speaker, will include roundtable discussions and specially arranged one-on-one meetings on investment in infrastructure development, information and communications technology (ICT) and manufacturing.

Privatisation and infrastructure investment projects, which include the Caymanas Economic Zone, airports and aerodromes and a renowned Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee facility, will be the focus of the presentation by Sancia Bennett Templer, President of JAMPRO, and Milverton Reynolds, Managing Director, Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ).

Claude Duncan, Vice President, Investment Promotion, JAMPRO, will highlight Jamaica’s rise as a prominent player in the ICT sector in the Caribbean and Latin America, and address the opportunities that exist in the areas of business process outsourcing, software development and the development of technology parks.

Investment opportunities in the area of manufacturing, with particular emphasis on agro-processing, nutraceuticals, limestone-based goods, light manufacturing and contract assembly will be outlined by Robert Kerr, Manager, North American Regional Office, JAMPRO.

The staging of the “Invest in Jamaica” forum in Toronto follows similar events organised by JAMPRO in New York last September and London in March of this year, and falls under the agency’s strategy to host promotional events in key international markets.
