As Jamaica gears up for a widely anticipated general election, likely in September 2025, the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) has invited a slate of international and local observer groups to monitor the process – underscoring its commitment to transparency and democratic integrity.

Observer missions from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Organisation of American States (OAS), the Commonwealth Secretariat, CAPEL, and Jamaica’s own Citizens Action for Free and Fair Elections (CAFFE) have been formally invited.

ECJ Chairman Earl Jarrett emphasized the importance of independent oversight, calling it vital to ensuring free and fair elections while promoting regional collaboration and best practices. “Observer missions provide impartial assessments and contribute to capacity building,” Jarrett noted.

These teams will evaluate the political environment, election preparations, polling day activities, and post-election procedures, with findings and recommendations to be submitted to the ECJ.

Jamaica has welcomed election observers since 1997.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness recently signaled that the election date will be announced soon, telling supporters in Portland, “It is by now very clear that very soon there will be an election.”
